This Is the Place Heritage Park
This is the Place Heritage Park is a 450-acre Living History site that offers visitors a look at life in 19th Century Utah from the Mormon arrival in 1847 to statehood in 1896. Heritage Village, located within the Park, presents a pioneer experience for all ages. At Settlers' Pond, a Native American Village explores the cultures of Utah's first residents.
Children can ride a pony, visit the Petting Corral, ride a mini-train, do actual pioneer chores and make take-home crafts, among other things. Adults will enjoy authentic craft demonstrations by working tradesmen and visiting the 40+ original or replica homes and shops in the Village.
Dining is available at the Monument Cafe and Huntsman Grill. Cold drinks/snacks/old-fashioned candy are sold at the ZCMI general store, an original building brought to the Park from central Utah. Shopping is at the Visitors' Center just outside the Village gate.
Admission fees to Heritage Village subject to change.
Hours: Daily, 10am - 5pm (limited programming Sundays)
The Park also offers:
Handcart Day Treks for youth/young adults
Pioneer Courting/Etiquette for youth/young adults
School Tours for elementary and junior high schools
Building Rentals and complete Event Services
Admission to the rest of the Park is free.
Open dawn to dusk daily
This Is The Place Monument
Across the plaza from Heritage Village is the This Is The Place Monument, which marks the end of the 1,300-mile trek across the plains by the early Mormons. Erected in 1847, the base of the monument also honors the Native Americans, fur trappers, Mountain Men and Spanish Catholic priests who explored the region before settlement.
Statuary Walk
This walkway along the lawns featured various sculpture and monuments highlighting pioneer life. The National Pony Express Monument also is located here.
Location
This Is The Place Heritage Park is located at the mouth of Emigration Canyon, across the street from Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City. The Park is accessible from I-15 via the 600 South Exit (continue east on 800 South to the Park); and from I-80 via the Foothill Boulevard exit (continue north to Sunnyside Avenue, then turn east).
